The grading scale at Lithuanian Maritime Academy
 
Lithuanian Maritime Academy uses a criterion-referenced grading system, based on learning outcomes. For exchange students the ECTS grading scale is used parallel with the LMA grading scale. In order to contribute to the understanding of LMA grades, there has been established a set model for translation of the grades to their approximate equivalents in the ECTS scale.

10 Excellent A
9 Very good B
8 Good C
7 Good C
6 Satisfactory D
5 Sufficient E
4 and below Fail F / FX

 

Equivalent ECTS grade:

10-9 (excellent) - A, B excellent, very good
An excellent grade is assigned to the student who thoroughly knows the entire subject matter in all of its inherent relationships and is able to independently apply his/her knowledge with absolute certainty;

8-7 (good) - C good
good grade is assigned to the student who thoroughly knows the entire subject matter of the course and can safely apply its content;

6 (satisfactory) - D satisfactory
satisfactory grade is assigned to the student who knows significant portions of the subject matter of the course and is able to apply them with suitable safely;

5 (pass) - E sufficient
pass grade is assigned to the student who knows the significant parts of the course on a satisfactory level and is able to demonstrate an acceptable level of familiarity in the application of the content of the course;

Below 4 (fail) - FX, F fail
fail grade is assigned to the student who does not command sufficient knowledge and demonstrate skill in applying the practices of his/her chosen field.
