On October 17th, Lithuanian Maritime Academy (LMA) hosted ,,Baltic Branch of Nautical Institute Klaipeda conference“, gathering prominent representatives from Lithuania’s maritime sector and international experts. The conference caught the interest of Lithuanian and Latvian maritime business – large shipping companies, seafarers’ recruitment and stevedoring companies, whose representatives gathered in large numbers at the LMA.
The conference began with welcome speeches from VILNIUS TECH Lithuanian Maritime Academy Director Vaclav Stankevič and event organisers, Member Engagement Manager at The Nautical Institute James Luetchford.
After welcome speeches, Prof. Dr. Valdas Rakutis, member of
the Lithuanian Parliament and Chairman of the Maritime Affairs Committee provided insight into the establishment of Lithuania’s maritime policy.
Vice Dean for Science and Infrastructure at the Lithuanian
Maritime Academy assoc. prof. dr. Justas Žaglinskis outlined the new opportunities emerging at the Lithuanian Maritime Academy.
Vaiva Indilaitė-Girtzė Stakeholder and Communities Manager
at Curonian Nord, AB Ignitis grupė, discussed offshore wind industry installations in the Baltic Sea.
CEO of OJ Crew Group Artur Truš, tackled the crewing business challenges in Lithuania.
Janis Sticenko, Director of Customers Connections at Novikontas Maritime College & Novikontas Energy, followed with a discussion on the certification and recertification of seafarers.
Robertas Valantiejus, Executive Director of the Association of Lithuanian Stevedoring Companies, spoke about how stevedoring companies in Lithuania are adapting to constant change.
Rima Mickienė, Vice Dean for Studies, Alumni, and Partnership at the Lithuanian Maritime Academy, addressed the ongoing changes in the Lithuanian maritime education, training system and participation in EU projects. Mrs. R. Mickienė presented the project SEA4SHORE, project’s vision and main goals.
The conference concluded with a lively discussion and networking session, offering attendees the opportunity to exchange ideas, establish connections, and explore potential collaborations.
