Scientific society

The Scientific Society “Societas Maris Academica” is an independent, voluntary association of members of the academic community of the LMA (lecturers, students and other employees) involved in R&D activities, acting as an organisational unit of the LMA, representing and defending the interests of the members of the Society, and coordinating the activities of the members of the Society, which are not in contradiction with the Statutes of LMA.

Aim of the Scientific Society

The main aim is to unite the academic community of LMA in applied, experimental and project activities, engaging in the organisation and implementation of LMA’s applied in R&D activities, cooperating with scientists, researchers, research and study institutions, national and international organisations in various fields of science and engineering, businesses operating in the maritime transport sector, and other stakeholders, and to popularise the activities of science and the Society.

The Scientific Society’s activities:

  • encouraging the LMA academic community to engage in R&D activities;
  • strengthening the research competences of the members of the Society;
  • participation in meetings with stakeholders on research and experimental development issues;
  • organising the promotion of science through involvement in international, national, LMA, regional, city R&D activities and initiatives.

The Scientific Society’s main tasks:

  • unite researchers from all scientific disciplines in joint research and experimental development activities;
  • to involve members of the LMA academic community in R&D activities;
  • to make proposals for improving the competences of the members of the Society;
  • publish research results at national and international level and present them at scientific events;
  • initiate the development of new projects and their implementation;
  • develop and test research methodologies for practical application in R&D;
  • organise conferences, seminars and other events to promote science;
  • publicise facts about the Society’s activities.
